Hierarchical Bayes modelling of penalty conversion rates of Bundesliga players

چکیده
Abstract Judging by its significant potential to affect the outcome of a game in one single action, penalty kick is arguably most important set piece football. Scientific studies on how ability convert distributed among professional football players are scarce. In this paper, we consider rank takers German Bundesliga based historical data from 1963 2021. We use Bayesian models that improve inference measures individual imposing structural assumptions an associated high-dimensional parameter space. These methods prove useful for our application, coping with inherent difficulty many only take few penalties, making purely frequentist rather unreliable.

This article presents a novel model for evaluating the performance of field players in football. Based upon Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), we employ a nonconcave metafrontier approach that permits estimation of players’ efficiency scores under consideration of their playing positions. The model is applied to a data set of Germany’s premier league football players covering the playing seasons ...
متن کاملSmall Area Estimation of the Mean of Household\'s Income in Selected Provinces of Iran with Hierarchical Bayes Approach
Extended Abstract. Small area estimation has received a lot of attention in recent years due to necessity demand for reliable small area statistics. Direct estimator may not provide adequate precision, because sample size in small areas is seldom large enough. Hence, by employing models that can use auxiliary information and area effects in descriptions, one can increase the precision of direct...
متن کاملExploration of Empirical-Bayes Hierarchical Modelling for the Analysis of Genome-Wide Association Study Data
1 Mixture Model and Bayesian Model Interpretations Combining Equations 2.1 and 2.2 (Main Text), we can consider the empirical-Bayes hierarchical model as a mixed model with both fixed and random effects in the frequentist setting as given by: logit(pmi) = αm + ZmγXmi +Xmiτ tmm, where ZmγXmi would be considered a fixed effect and Xmiτ tmm a random effect. Alternatively, this model may be viewed ...
